Here at DriveTown we have this 2018 New Model Subaru XV with eyesight.

The Subaru XV is one of those cars thats a whole lot better than you expect to be. its only when you spend time behind the wheel, that you start to understand the deeper-seated quality of this oddball crossover, The recipe here hasnt changed much over the previous XV. Its still powered by a flat-four engine feeding not much torque through a stepped CVT permanently to all four wheels.

The styling has been altered, although youd have to be a confirmed car spotter to make sense of the changes over the old XV. So, it has a sleeker grille, new LED headlights and silver accents to highlight the cars off-road sensibilities. In fact, while it might look more evolution than revolution, this is a completely new car from the ground up to make use of the new platform. Its fractionally wider and longer than the old XV with a bigger boot. The biggest difference is in the on-road handling, and thats down to the new platform. Bodyroll has been mitigated impressively thanks to a lower centre of gravity, lighter, stiffer monocoque and a new stabiliser bar at the rear. The latter point is the most important, as it connects directly to the body instead of the subframe as before, thus eradicating most of the excess movement.

It feels polished, solid and confident which youd expect from a firm thats been building SUVs as long as Subaru has. Add to that genuine on-and-off-road capability, an impressive kit list and industry-leading driver-assistance tech; its starting to look rather compelling.
