Here at DriveTown we have this 2015 Subaru Legacy B4 AWD.

This time around Subaru has made the new Legacy generally easier to live with, and look at. More appealing overall look.

This Legacy rides on the same length wheelbase as the old model, it's wider and by moving the base of the A-pillar forward and repackaging the interior, everyone has a bit more breathing space inside, particularly those in the rear. Other than a small(ish) opening, the boot is big enough too and expands easily with a split folding rear seat function. It's a genuinely big and comfortable ride with accommodating front seats that are set a little higher to ease entry and larger door openings help as well.

Not that this is a stripper model however, with privacy glass, auto wipers and lights, dual zone climate air, Subaru's EyeSight driver assist system is included with forward collision mitigation, active cruise and lane departure. Many Kiwi drivers would benefit from the latter function.

The four-cylinder 2.5 is 70kg lighter over the front axle, so it does feel the better balanced in bends. Legacy remains AWD with a nominal 60:40 front-rear split though the electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case can push more rearwards when needed, and when cornering to help negate the usual AWD tendency to push wide. And torque vectoring, which brakes the inside wheels, will lend a hand if you're going bananas.

The Subaru Legacy has been around long enough to actually have a legacy. Thats 26 years and counting as a comfortable, affordable, reliable family sedan choice. Its also mirrored the legacy of the Subaru brand itself: delivering all-weather capabilities in a slightly quirky package. Well, an all-new Legacy is looking to update both histories, while also going a bit more mainstream.
